What is forensic science?
Forensic science is the application of scientific methods and case processes involving crime or the public. Forensic science has become one of the most important parts of any criminal case. Experts studying the evidence gathered at the scene and explaining their scientific findings to a jury make it possible for the jury to make good decisions about guilt or innocence.
Regardless of their scientific specialty, all forensic scientists have the same purpose: examining evidence from a crime scene using strictly scientific knowledge and principles in order to find facts about a criminal case. Because the findings are objective facts, forensic sciences can be useful for both prosecution and defense. Forensic science focuses on facts that testify whether something has happened or not in a criminal or civil case. Forensic specialists should focus more on science than on crime. To be useful in a court, their testimony must be objective, reliable, and based solely on scientific facts.
